"What do you do?"
"I make shrubs!"
"...You make...bushes?"
I've come to expect this question once I tell people what I do. What on Earth is a shrub?
First, let's cover the etymology. The word "shrub" is derived from the Arabic word sharāb, meaning "to drink."
Second, the ingredients. People hear "vinegar" and immediately think they won't enjoy it. Who wants to drink vinegar? Not me! But apple cider vinegar expertly infused with fruits, herbs, and/or spices, sweetened with a bit of sugar (or honey, agave or even maple syrup), and added to seltzer? It's the perfect replacement for your soda habit!
I only use raw, unfiltered vinegar. This ensures each batch of shrub contains the mother. "The mother" is the appropriately affectionate term for the mass of bacteria added to apple cider in order to break down the alcohol into acetic acid, which gives vinegar its distinctly sharp taste. It contains dozens of strains of probiotics which help your digestive system, immune system, and even your blood sugar.
I could go on, but I've taken enough of your time you could be spending browsing my selection of different flavors, picking your favorite, and ordering! Do yourself a favor: kick the soda to the curb and try a shrub!
